Newmont Mining Internship in Historic Preservation (Elko)

Dates: 2019-2020 academic year

Hours: 8 - 10 hours per week

Location: Elko and surrounding communities

Available to students at Great Basin College


This position will provide on-the-ground services to Elko and nearby communities through educational programming, historic resource surveys, and light research. We are looking for a senior or exceptional junior at GBC who is majoring or minoring in the social sciences. The position will be responsible for participating in NPF weekly staff meetings via Skype, organizing and implementing 3-4 educational programs, and conducting historic preservation fieldwork and research. The position will require one trip to NPF's main office in Las Vegas in October 2019 for training and our annual meeting.

Training on historic resource surveys, research, and programming will be done in Elko with NPF's executive director. We are looking for someone excited about Nevada history and places, who is a motivated, self-starter. This position will create NPF's first branch office, and we are very excited to have a presence in Elko!

Compensation:

  • Tuition, depending upon number of credits taken this may cover all or most of your tuition
  • $200/mo stipend for academic year
