Classic Cocktails for the Holidays
‘Tis the season to make merry with our family, friends and colleagues. And nothing says “happy holidays” better than a festive cocktail. What will you be serving at your retro holiday party? Why not try one of these classics:
Hot Buttered Rum
This cocktail is also great for alpine adventurers looking to get cozy by a log cabin fire. It takes a little prep work because you need to make a batter of butter and spices.
Ingredients:
- 4 oz of unsalted butter
- 1 cup of brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon of ground cloves
- 1/8 teaspoon of salt
With the butter at room temperature, mix all the ingredients together in a bowl with a fork until fully combined. Using plastic wrap or wax paper, roll and form into a log. Refrigerate for later use. To make the drink, place 2 tablespoons of batter and toss in a mug and pour about 6 oz of hot cider on top of the batter and stir until it is completely dissolved, then add dark aged rum, about 1.5 oz. Stir and serve with a stick of cinnamon to garnish.
Classic Eggnog
Nothing will make Aunt Martha twinkle this season like a frothy mug of eggnog!
Ingredients:
- 6 eggs
- 3/4 cup of sugar
- 1 quart of half & half
- 1/2 cup bourbon
- 1/2 cup brandy
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Separate the eggs, set whites aside. Beat the yolks with a mixer with 1/2 cup of the sugar, then stir in the half & half, bourbon, brandy, and nutmeg. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites with 1/4 cup of sugar, until it thickens and forms stiff peaks. Fold the whites into the yolk/liquor mixture, then refrigerate until ready to serve.
Kir Royale
This one is so simple but looks fancy.
Ingredients:
- 1 tsp. crème de cassis
- champagne or sparkling wine to taste
Pour 1 tsp. crème de cassis into a Champagne flute and top with Champagne or sparkling wine. Done!
We hope you enjoy these cocktails and have a wonderful holiday season. Cheers from NPF!
