Once again, spring is upon us and the month of May is just around the corner. As many of you know, May is nationally known as Historic Preservation Month and brings about a flurry of preservation-related events. Last year, as part of these nationwide festivities, Nevada Preservation Foundation launched our annual Vintage Vegas Home Tour, consisting of an afternoon of open houses through historic homes. This year, NPF is proud to announce that our 2nd annual Vintage Vegas Home Tour is even bigger and better than last year and is the feature event of our new Vintage Vegas Home & History weekend.
Vintage Vegas: Homes, History & Happenings
NPF has always imagined that our annual Home Tour could eventually grow into an expanded weekend targeted towards cultural and heritage tourism. As we’ve learned in our Preservation Mondays blog, cultural and heritage opportunities often attract tourists who are willing to spend more and stay longer, making the Home Tour a perfect fit for heritage tourism is Las Vegas. After last year’s successful event, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) graciously agreed to sponsor this year’s Home Tour, with a particular emphasis on out of state marketing and event growth. With the support of LVCVA and their generous donation, NPF is excited to announce our annual Home Tour is now part of an expanded, two day Vintage Vegas Home & History weekend!
The weekend starts Saturday May 7th and includes discounted tickets for Home Tour ticket holders to the Neon Museum and Mob Museum as well as participating shops and businesses along Antique Alley on Main Street. Discounts to the museums are $2 off from standard ticket prices and will run from Saturday May 7th through Saturday May 14th. Details on how to obtain the discount will be in the confirmation email that is sent after purchasing tickets to the Home Tour. Details on participating businesses from Antique Alley will be available on our website in the coming week.
In addition, NPF has uploaded various, short walking and driving tours of historic neighborhoods and at risk buildings throughout the Las Vegas area. These tours can be downloaded and taken at your own pace, any time of day, and are taken from the City of Las Vegas’ historic preservation page. NPF will also host a social, classic cocktail meet-up Saturday evening at 6pm, the location of which will be announced in the coming weeks as well. And last, but definitely not least, the Vintage Vegas Home Tour caps the weekend with a full afternoon of historic open houses!
